Story of the Globant Women that Builds Award Winner – The first Pakistani woman to win the prestigious Women in Technology Awards.
Emanating from Pakistan’s city of lights, Karachi, Anum Shakeel has been a highly capable student ever since childhood. By the grace of God and her own industrious efforts, she has thrived in every educational arena. Anum’s academic journey started at the school under Parsi Administration. This is where the student’s mental acuity reality revealed itself, as she managed to power through and secure the first position from grades 1 through 10. Following this, she completed her intermediate from a Government Girls College, but the thirst for knowledge was far from quenched. Thanks to her consistent efforts, she was awarded admission into one of the most prestigious institutes of the country, the University of Karachi. Hard work almost always pays off, as Anum showed by securing the university’s highly coveted gold medal for her exemplary performance. It must be mentioned that this was the very first time in the university’s history that an evening-shift student managed to be awarded the gold medal.
In addition to her academic achievements, Anum has also forayed into the world of social change, forming the association entitled “The Marketects Club.” The club tackles the important problem of bridging the gap between academia and the industry. The aspiring benefactor helps and supports students struggling to get into the corporate world. The Marketects Club (TMC) assists the transition from boardroom to the classroom by offering internships, industry tours, workshops, seminars, mentor clinics, and much more. To date, Anum has trained and mentored a staggering 10,000 plus students through TMC.
This young soul then went on to play a key role as a founding board member at "Momentum" Pakistan. Momentum is the leading conference and exhibition for startups in Pakistan having worked with 300+ budding companies. The company builds alliances with well-known incubators and accelerators in Pakistan to give strong support for the Pakistan startups ecosystem.
On an International level, Anum is appointed as the Digital Ambassador at World Pulse, which is a global social network where every woman can rise up to voice herself and transform her community. She is also serving as a Global Shaper in its Karachi Hub at GSC-An initiative of the World Economic Forum and representing Pakistan at different Global dialogues related to socio-economic issues.
Anum realizes that women's liberation is the dire need of today’s modern world and she tries to shoulder the responsibilities for this important cause as much as she can. On her tireless commitment to women’s development in Pakistan, she has been awarded the Role Model Women 2021 by FJF Foundation. She has also managed to snag a spot in the top 25 females to be followed in the Pakistani tech industry by the Women in Tech- PK platform. Moreover, her name is highlighted in Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT (P@sha) ProWomen Directory, ProWomen is an online directory of professional women working in different sectors in Pakistan.
On her excellent community services, Anum is being awarded by National Youth Award 2021 at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad. And National Peace Award at PC Hotel, Peshawar.
